458 Chapter 452: Because It's Retribution
Tang Yuxin stood still, unmoved, her gaze still fixed on Qin Ziye's face, cold and clear, yet devoid of the slightest ripples.
She was, after all, a frosty person, one who could abandon even the deepest of emotional connections with those who wronged her. She might be a woman devoid of love as she wouldn't even recognize her own biological mother, let alone acknowledge a love borne of deceit.
There were things in life, she thought, that she had to let go of.
And letting go was not about running away.
She clenched her arms and walked up to the sickbed. The man in front of her was no longer the Qin Ziyi of the past; his life had been tormented by disease until there was nothing left.
Even his life seemed to be slipping away.
"Yuxin..." Qin Ziye called out Tang Yuxin's name, but his voice was noticeably strained, hardly audible.
"Good to see you," he chuckled bleakly, "at least, I get to see you in my final days, and..." He extended a hand, frail and void of color, into the air, as if he wanted to grasp something or wanted someone to help him hold on to something. But in the end, his hand was left hanging in the air all by itself.
If he had already given up, how could others not?
"I..." His sentence was interrupted by a violent cough. His face turned an ashen hue, and he still owed her an apology, an utterance of 'sorry' that had always been left unsaid.
To his surprise, seeing her made him feel that he could die contented with his life.
He truly wanted to apologize, but the word never escaped his lips in the end.
Tang Yuxin turned around, opened the door, and left. When she looked back, she saw Qin Ziye clutching the blanket, a tear trickling down the corner of his eye.
Which man in this world would cry over her? She had once thought if a man cried for her, she would marry him. But now, she did not want such tears.
She once again entered the dean's office.
When she came out not long after, the dean who followed behind her released a heavy sigh.
The dean said, "Yuxin, are you sure about your decision?"
When the pain pierced through her back, she couldn't help but furrow her brows. The pain did not end, but rather, just commenced.
She clutched fiercely onto the sheets, the cold sweat dripping from her forehead in large beads. Her fair fingers were so tense they might snap at any point.
The pain was unbearable, she wanted to cry.
She could hear the sound of the needle piercing into her spine.
Just one sound, then the extraction began. She could feel the moving needle inside her.
Her face grew paler, her fingers clenched onto the bedsheets. The cold sweat drenching her clothes, her muscles were tensed to the highest degree. Her body began to tremble and convulse.
She endured, but the pain persisted.
The doctors recoiled, pressing down on her, preventing her from moving.
Her fingers felt as if they were about to break, and her feet curled up snugly.
There was a loud cracking sound, as if something has snipped off her body. Lying down on the bed, she was panting heavily, her muscles still tensed wordlessly.
Even the doctors pressing down on her couldn't bear to see her like this anymore. They cried quietly, their eyes were red.
It hurt. So much.
Humans had flesh and bones. It was normal to feel pain. But they pushed on, tolerating the pain, this was the price of saving a life.
The needle was finally pulled out, and the doctor was bathed in sweat under his gown. He wiped off the sweat on his forehead, his clothes soaked in sweat. Tang Yuxin's clothes drenched even more, it was as if they could be wrung out.
Her hands finally loosen up, the sheet tucked under her fists was crinkled beyond recognition.
At that moment, her hair was stuck to her face, her fluttering lashes were damp, mist spread across the corners of her eyes.
The extracted bone marrow was handed over to Qin Ziye's attending physician by the doctor.
