The World Dragon's Heir

Chapter 803: Give Him Magic

Chapter 803: Give Him Magic

With the two dragonkin, along with all the mages in the Capital, the flood of magic was immense.

A continual flow of fireballs, ice spikes, glowing light, and other random spell effects filled the sky as everyone emptied their mana reserves for the good fortune of the nation.

Then, Dominic tilted his head back and breathed fire into the sky, followed by Katerina, who had him pick her up so she didn’t burn anyone.

The flames swirled up through the magic, gathering it before flowing down into the crown and King Claudius, who was now physically glowing with golden magic power.

Katerina was suitably impressed.

She had never seen someone have so much stored power that they actually glowed before.

Sure, her father’s eyes glowed sometimes, but that was usually just when he was looking for her mother, or when he was angry at someone. That hardly counted. The King was actually glowing all over, and it was with pure power.

Slowly, the phenomenon faded, and the power seemed to soak into King Claudius, giving him faintly glowing golden eyes for most of a minute before the effect ended entirely.

Behind Claudius, the old King waved a hand, and a portal opened that immediately caught Dominic’s attention. It wasn’t aimed at somewhere in Cygnia, as everyone had assumed. It targeted the same place where Asmodain had set up the new Wavemates Academy, the Beast World.

The King stepped through without looking back, but Dominic saw someone in the background waving a greeting at him before the portal closed.

That sneaky old man.

He had claimed to be retiring to an estate, but he hadn’t said anything about where that estate might be.

Dominic wasn’t certain that anyone else had noticed at all. He had felt the familiar energy from the other side of the portal, but the rest of the crowd was focused on King Claudius, and a great deal of cheering and shouting from the crowd echoed through the city.

They remained in the crowd for a few more minutes, then returned to the Palace, where they could have a proper family meeting with the King.

Claudius would be upset if his sister slipped away without a proper goodbye, though they had many things to take care of while the whole nation was occupied. The coronation was a huge event for all the Nobles, and the King would be busy accepting personal oaths for at least a month.

But the Dukes and Earls would all do theirs in person today after the ceremony.

Alexis led them all to her suite so that she could change before the next part of the event. It was tradition for the ladies to change dresses between the afternoon and evening events, when they went from outdoors to indoors.

A tradition that Katerina was not particularly fond of.

She was already wearing the dress that she liked, why should she put on a different one when she got inside? It wasn’t like she got sweaty like some common human.

No matter how long she remained out in the sun, she kept smelling like soap until that faded. Then she smelled like nutmeg and hot metal. Not like some of the people who came to visit the house and smelled like a pig barn in the sun.

She didn’t argue, and simply changed into a different red dress with gold stitching on it.

This one was a bit more formal and heavier than the other one, with brighter details that would stand out in the dim light of the Palace interior. She understood the theory, but that didn’t mean that she liked changing dresses multiple times a day.

Maybe she could petition to be a Royal Mage like her dad and just wear black robes to all the formal stuff? His outfit even got to have armour sometimes.

That was way better.

By the time that they were ready, the Veiled Maids were waiting to lead them to the throne room to do their formal oath swearing before the first official Royal dinner.

After that, they would head home, as the King was going to be far too busy to be socializing, and they were obliged to put up notices about the change of Monarch, in case somehow someone didn’t know.

In the past, it could take months before the news spread to the whole nation.

Now, Dominic would be surprised if more than a handful of people in Wistover City didn’t know, or more than a third of the rural farms and villages. Even the Trolls would know, as the Mountain Trolls could communicate over long distances without technology.

Claudius was waiting on the throne with most of his siblings nearby, waiting for everyone to gather.

There were a few that Dominic knew would be absent. Sisters who had married out of the country, and so wouldn’t be swearing fealty to the King of Cygnia. However, Josephine and Thorvald had come for the party, and they were waiting in the room.

Obviously, they wouldn’t be swearing, as Thorvald was a Duke in West Keria. But they had made the effort to be here for the big day.

"Welcome, my Royal siblings. Thank you all for making time to be here. I know that there is much for you all to do with the transition between Kings, so I won’t keep you long.

There is just the one formality left, and then everyone can go."

The other Royals smiled as Claudius began to visibly relax.

It was a turning point for them all. No longer were they children of the reigning King, they were Royal Siblings, branches of the family that would be expected to find their own way in the world.

Well, all of them who had actually begun their adult life.

Princess Eleanor was devoutly holding on to her youth at the "mature" age of nineteen. She had refused the suitors who had come for her in the past, and had instead joined the Royal Paladins, with a threat of remaining a battle nun forever if she never found the right man.

She was the last of the siblings that was unmarried, but Dominic could see that was unlikely to last long.

Now that she wasn’t the King’s daughter, but the new King’s little sister, it wouldn’t be embarrassing for her to marry an untitled man. And that opened up the opportunity for many of her comrades in the Order to make their intentions known.
